I can’t log in.
Work through these in order — most sign-in problems are a wrong password or an unverified email:
- Re-check your email and password. The “Invalid email or password” message is intentionally generic — it won’t tell you which one is wrong. On the Sign In page, click Show next to the password field to confirm what you typed.
- Reset your password. On the Sign In page click Forgot password? (this opens the reset-password page). Enter your email and click Send Reset Link — you’ll see “Reset link sent. Check your email.” Open that email, click the link, then enter a New Password (at least 8 characters) and Confirm Password, and click Set Password. You’ll be returned to the Sign In page to log in with the new password.
- Verify your email if your account is new. New accounts must confirm their email before signing in. On the Sign In page, type your email in the Email field and click Resend verification email, then click the link in the message that arrives.
- Check your device’s clock. Sign-in can be rejected if your device’s date and time are noticeably wrong. Set the clock to update automatically, then try again.
- Try another browser or a private window. A browser extension or a strict privacy setting that blocks cookies can prevent login. Disable such extensions for this site, or try a different browser.
- Still stuck? Email [email protected] and include the exact error text shown (for example, a code like
AUTH-48).
What do I get for free?
Every account includes 3 Passage Reports at no cost — no credit card required. The banner at the top of the app shows how many you have left (“Free reports: N of 3 remaining”). When you try to run a fourth report, you’re taken to the Upgrade page to choose a plan.
Do my free reports expire?
No. The 3 free reports are a one-time, lifetime allowance per account — not a timed trial. There’s no countdown, and nothing is charged when they run out; you simply choose a plan if you want to keep generating reports.
I’ve used my 3 free reports (or I was sent to the Upgrade page).
That’s expected once you’ve run all three free reports — running a fourth sends you to the Upgrade page automatically. Choose a plan to keep going; see “What do the paid plans include?” and “How do I upgrade to a paid plan?” just below for the details. You can change plans or cancel anytime from your Account page.
What do the paid plans include?
There are three subscription tiers. Each one builds on the one before it:
- Sailor. Core AI passage analysis with a plain-language explanation, a 7-day forecast window, up to 3 waypoints per passage, and wind, wave, and swell conditions.
- Skipper. Everything in Sailor, plus a 16-day forecast horizon with consensus bands, unlimited waypoints, and the motion-comfort, fuel-reserve, synoptic-assessment, and squall-risk panels.
- Captain. Everything in Skipper, plus tides and ocean currents, custom polar upload and tuning, and early access to new features.
For current prices and the exact, up-to-date feature list for each tier, see the Upgrade page.
How do I upgrade to a paid plan?
- Click Upgrade in the banner at the top of the app, or open the Upgrade page directly.
- Choose a billing interval — Annual (saves 20%) or Monthly.
- Pick the plan you want — Sailor, Skipper, or Captain — and click its Get button.
- Complete checkout. You’ll be returned to your Account page with the new plan active.
Who processes payments — is my card secure?
Payments are handled by Stripe, a major payment processor. Your card details are entered on Stripe’s secure checkout — WeatherWindow.AI never sees or stores your full card number. See our Privacy Policy for how your account data is handled.
Will I be charged automatically, and how do I see my next charge?
- Paid plans renew automatically at the interval you chose (annual or monthly).
- To see your next-charge amount and full billing history, open your Account page and click Billing & invoices.
- To stop the next renewal while keeping access through the end of your paid term, use Turn off auto-renewal on the Account page.
How do I change or cancel my subscription?
- Open your Account page (in the app, use the user menu in the top-right → Account).
- Click Billing & invoices to open the billing portal, where you can update your payment details, see your billing history, or cancel.
- To switch tiers, use Change plan; to stop a renewal without losing the rest of your term, use Turn off auto-renewal.
Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access until then.
What happens to my boats and passages if I cancel or downgrade?
Your saved vessel profiles, routes, and Passage Reports stay with your account. Cancelling takes effect at the end of your current billing period; after that, any tier-only features (such as the 16-day horizon or tides & currents) simply become unavailable until you re-subscribe — your data isn’t deleted. If you want to erase your data, use Delete All Account Data on the Account page (see Troubleshooting).
What is your refund policy?
First-time subscribers can request a full refund of their first subscription charge within 30 days of that charge — email [email protected]. You have to ask; it isn’t automatic. If we issue the refund, your subscription ends right away rather than running to the end of the period — your saved boats, routes, and Passage Reports stay in your account. The guarantee covers your first subscription charge only. Renewal charges are non-refundable, and an ordinary cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period (there’s no partial refund for unused time). See the Terms of Service for the full policy.
WeatherWindow.AI turns your boat, a route, and a departure time into a plain-language passage assessment: GO, CAUTION, MARGINAL (an intermediate call between GO and NO-GO), or NO-GO — and, in en-route briefings, DIVERT (the underway counterpart of NO-GO). Every label is an assessment to inform your judgment, not a clearance to sail. Here’s how to go from a new account to your first report — click any step to expand it.
1. Set up your boat
Open the Boat Settings tab (top of the app). The analysis needs to know how your boat sails, so fill in your vessel data first:
- Vessel data (required). Complete every field marked with a red asterisk (*) — hull type (Catamaran or Monohull), sail area, freeboard and cabin height, length overall and at the waterline, beam, water and air draft, loaded displacement, ballast (monohulls), and the stern-to-helm distance.
- Engine & fuel (optional). Add your motor-on speed threshold, motoring speed, fuel aboard, and burn rate to unlock the fuel-margin check on the report.
- Polar & sail data (optional). Upload a custom polar (
.pol or .csv) or use Edit Polar for precision, and set your night-speed factor and reefing thresholds. - Save. Click Save Vessel Data. The status chip should then read “Boat ready for analysis.”
2. Plan your route
Switch to the Route Map tab and lay out where you’re going:
- Drop your waypoints. Click the map to set your Departure point, then click again for your Destination. Add intermediate waypoints with more clicks, or drag any marker to move it. (At minimum you need a start and an end.)
- Or import a route. Load a
.gpx file and confirm Replace Route when prompted — the first and last track points become your departure and destination. - Set your departure. Fill the Departure date and time at the bottom of the sidebar, or click Now for an immediate departure. The time can’t be in the past.
3. Run your Passage Report
- Check the button. The Run Passage Analysis button at the bottom of the Route Map sidebar enables once your boat, route, and departure are all set. If it’s greyed out, the line just beneath it tells you exactly what’s still missing.
- Run it. Click Run Passage Analysis and wait about a minute while the engine projects your boat along the route hour by hour against the forecast.
4. Read your result
- Start with the recommendation. The Passage Report tab opens with your assessment at the top — GO ◆, CAUTION ▲, or NO-GO ■ (and, where applicable, MARGINAL ▲ or DIVERT ■) — followed by a plain-language rationale.
- Work through the details. Read the hour-by-hour conditions for each leg and, depending on your plan, the motion-comfort, fuel-reserve, synoptic, and squall-risk panels.
- Explore the Passage Map. Open the Passage Map tab to step through your route hour by hour on an interactive map.
- Save or share. Use Print to save a PDF of the report.
The “Run Passage Analysis” button is greyed out, or my report won’t run.
The Run Passage Analysis button lives at the bottom of the Route Map sidebar. It stays disabled until everything it needs is in place, and it tells you what’s missing right below it. Check these in order:
- Read the line directly under the button. It spells out exactly what’s missing — for example “Departure location missing” or “Vessel Profile (in Settings) incomplete: Missing Sail area, Freeboard Height.”
- Finish your boat. Open the Boat Settings tab and fill every field marked with a red asterisk (*) — hull type, sail area, freeboard, the length/beam/draft fields, displacement, and (for monohulls) ballast. Click Save Vessel Data. The status chip should then read “Boat ready for analysis.”
- Set a route. On the Route Map, click the map to drop a Departure point, then click again for a Destination — or import a
.gpx file and confirm Replace Route. You need at least a start and an end point. - Set the departure date and time. Fill the Departure date and time at the bottom of the sidebar. The time can’t be in the past — click Now for an immediate departure.
- Run it. Once all of the above are set, the button enables. Click Run Passage Analysis and wait about a minute — results appear on the Passage Report tab.
- If the run starts but errors (for example “Couldn’t reach the analysis service” with a code like
AI-18), wait a moment and click Run again — it’s usually a temporary network hiccup. - Still failing? Email [email protected] with the error text/code and a quick description of what you’d entered.
The surface charts or maps won’t load.
The official forecast charts come from government sources (NWS / OPC / NHC) and are occasionally delayed or temporarily unavailable upstream; the app flags stale charts and recovers on its own. Refresh the page and check your connection. Your AI passage assessment ingests data from multiple sources, so it will still run even when the surface charts haven’t loaded — you just won’t see those particular charts.
My report stops before the end of my route, or a later day looks empty.
The analysis only reaches as far ahead as the forecast horizon for your plan — about 7 days on Sailor and up to 16 days on Skipper and Captain. Legs or days beyond that window aren’t assessed yet. Re-run closer to departure (or once you’re underway) to extend coverage, or upgrade for a longer horizon.
My boat speed or ETA looks wrong.
The passage is projected by dead reckoning from your boat data, so the fix is almost always in Boat Settings:
- Check your polar — an optimistic or missing polar is the most common cause of bad speeds.
- Check engine settings — the motor-on speed threshold and motoring speed change when and how fast the model motors.
- Check the night-speed factor — set too low, it slows every night hour.
- Confirm your vessel dimensions and displacement are entered correctly.
Why did my recommendation (GO / CAUTION / NO-GO — and, where applicable, MARGINAL / DIVERT) change between runs?
A Passage Report is a snapshot of the forecast at the moment you ran it. Forecasts are reissued several times a day, so a later run reads newer data and can reach a different recommendation. To make sure you’re looking at the current picture:
- Open the Passage Report tab and read the strip at the top — it shows when the analysis was computed and a countdown to when it expires.
- If that strip says the report is stale or close to expiring, click Run Passage Analysis again to pull the latest forecast.
- Remember that changing your departure time or route will also change the recommendation — even a few hours’ difference can move a weather window.
Small wording or number differences between two runs are normal; focus on the recommendation and the rationale it gives, not on exact figures.
Why does it say “Not for Navigation”?
WeatherWindow.AI is a planning and decision-support tool — not a navigation system, and not a professional weather-routing or clearance service. Its GO / CAUTION / NO-GO (and, where applicable, MARGINAL / DIVERT) assessment is automated analysis of public forecast data, meant to inform your judgment. It doesn’t replace official charts, real-time observations, or your responsibility as skipper for the safety of your vessel and crew. Always cross-check against official sources and make the final call yourself.
What’s a polar, and do I need one?
A polar is a table of how fast your boat sails at each wind angle and wind speed. It’s what lets the analysis predict your real boat speed — and therefore your ETA and the conditions you’ll actually meet. You can run a report without supplying one, but a good polar makes the projection far more accurate. In Boat Settings → Polar Data you can:
- Upload a polar file (
.pol or .csv) from your boat’s documentation or a VPP tool. - Or click Edit Polar to view, fine-tune, or build one by hand.
Can I save more than one boat?
On the Skipper and Captain plans you can keep a small fleet of boat profiles and switch between them with New Boat, Rename, Duplicate, and Delete in Boat Settings, choosing the active boat from the Boat dropdown. Free and Sailor accounts use a single boat profile. The active boat is the one used when you run a passage.
How do I change a route after I’ve drawn it?
- Move a point: drag its marker on the map.
- Add a waypoint: click the + on the route line between two existing points.
- Remove a waypoint: use the remove control on that waypoint’s row in the sidebar.
- Undo the last change with the Undo button.
- Start over: import a new
.gpx file and confirm Replace Route.
What units and directions does the app use?
Speeds are in knots, distances in nautical miles, and wave and wind heights in feet. Directions you read in popups and tables are magnetic (°M), while the map’s drawn geometry (boat icon, course lines, wind and wave arrows) is true (°T), as the map legend notes. The local magnetic variation is shown on the map.
How do I use the Passage Map?
The Passage Map plays your passage hour by hour:
- Drag the time slider to step through each hour — the boat icon moves along your route and every overlay updates with it.
- Read wind, wave, and heading directly off the boat as arrows and course lines at each step.
- Use the map’s layer controls to toggle overlays such as the wind rose, and the Course-Up option to rotate the map to your heading.
- The local magnetic variation for each point is shown on the map.
Will my Passage Report still be there after I close the tab or log out?
Yes. Once a report runs, it’s saved to your account — so it’s restored when you reload the page or sign back in, even on another device. You don’t need to re-run it just to view it again — but every report expires six (6) hours after it’s computed, so before you depart, always run a fresh analysis on the latest forecast. To clear saved reports (and everything else), use Delete All Account Data on your Account page.
Can I use it offline, or mid-passage with no signal?
Running a new Passage Report needs an internet connection, because it fetches live forecast data. You can save a report as a PDF (use Print), but treat that as a record of your planning — not a document to sail on. Every report expires six (6) hours after it’s computed, so a printed or saved copy must not be used to make departure or underway decisions, and it doesn’t substitute for official weather sources. Underway, obtain weather by radio — VHF weather channels and coast guard voice broadcasts, NAVTEX, or HF and satellite weather services — none of which requires an internet connection.
Does it work on my iPad or phone?
Yes — WeatherWindow.AI runs in the browser on desktop, iPad, and tablets. Use a current version of Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.
- Add it to your Home Screen (optional). In Safari on iPad/iPhone, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen — it then launches full-screen like an app.
- Saving a report as PDF on iPad: if the print dialog doesn’t appear the first time you tap the print/save button, tap it once more — iPad browsers sometimes need a second tap to open it.
How is my data handled, and how do I delete it?
Our Privacy Policy explains what we store and why. To permanently delete your saved data:
- Open your Account page (in the app, use the user menu in the top-right → Account).
- Scroll to the Data Management section.
- Click Delete All Account Data.
- In the dialog, type DELETE to confirm, then click Delete everything.
This permanently removes your saved vessel profile, sail configuration, polar data, route history, settings, and saved Passage Reports, then reloads the page. It cannot be undone. Note that this deletes your data but does not close your login account — to close the account entirely, email [email protected].
